CARE BEAR STARE
September 16, 2014
When you meet someone new, immediately point your heart warmly at that person's heart. There is magic in this."
Back in the early 1980's there was an amazing cartoon on TV called The Care Bears. The cast consisted of colorful bears who lived in the Kingdom of Caring, each with a different badge on their bellies such as a rainbow, hearts, or sunshine.
The Care Bears were pacifists. Spiritual gangsters. Their ultimate weapon was called the "Care Bear Stare", in which the bears would radiate light from their respective tummy symbols. The intention would be to form a ray of love and good cheer which would bring care and joy into the target's heart.
There is a lot to be learned from this old school Saturday morning favorite. We all have that good energy inside of us, and shining it on others is key in making a real connection during your initial introduction to someone new. We use that intangible feeling we get when we meet someone (for example getting "good vibes" or "the creeps") as part of the foundation of interpreting our impression of them.
This may sound silly but really try it, shine heart to heart the next time you meet someone new. I guarantee you'll come off more engaging, trustworthy, and memorable than the average bear.
